The Paintress

by C. Cherry

In the Era of Modern Art

There was a paintress

A pencil sketch with a tearstain

An oil painting with a smudge, a big, red “X”

A trashbin with messy, rolled up paper no longer contained

In this studio, colored  pencils are strewn everywhere

There has been cries of joy and frustration

But she will keep going on this long journey

One day organized, other day cluttered

Such is the way to the painter’s dreams
