Loopy Sanchez and the Missing Mail
By Fern H.
Loopy Sanchez was a snail
The one and only in the town, in fact
Who delivered the mail
In the town of Crikey Mate
A city of only bugs
The mail is hardly ever late
In the mossy postal log
All mail bugs swear an oath
That through rain, snow, sun, and fog
The mail will go through
In such a small community
That is not hard to commit to

Loopy exclaimed, “Oh!”
Upon coming home one day
From the Mossy Log Mail Depot
It was because he saw
The mailbox was empty!
It was not against the law
But simply just so
Unusual to see an empty mail nook
On a mail day that was not running slow!
He thought and thought and thought some more
About why it might be empty
And then he remembered: It was week four!
Every week of every month the mail routes changed
Week four was Loopy’s turn
To go down to Borage Root Lane
To his family’s neighborhood
And deliver their mail
How had he forgotten! He crawled back across the pale green wood
To slime back to the Mossy Log
To pick up the mail
On his way he: evaded the frog
Went by Maple lane
Through Wisteria Burrow
Past Veggies and Fruit Diner and Sugar Cane Groccery
And finally back to the Mossy Log where
He found
That he had no mail there
Lily had already gathered the mail
She had picked it up on her way
To bring him some of her famous tomato soup and kale
She was Loopy’s sister
Who was very kind but did like to tease him
When they were little she joked and called him Mister
When Loopy got home, every snail was there
To enjoy soup and read mail
Until it was very late and the air
Was full
Of the smell of clover
And the sound of chatter was only slightly dull
